“Our mission is to create patients for life by providing excellent eye care and service to the community. It’s important to give back to our community, to be at service. One way we do that is to provide sightsaving cataract surgeries to those most in need,” said Quigley Eye Specialists Founder and cataract “super specialist” surgeon Dr. Thomas Quigley.

Driven by its mission, Quigley Eye Specialists is looking for people with financial hardship and who have debilitating cataracts and are not eligible for Medicare, which normally pays for the surgery. Dr. Quigley adds, “We believe everyone should be able to see their best. Lack of money shouldn’t stop them from getting the care they need.”

Quigley Eye Specialists, with offices throughout Florida, has provided thousands of free cataract surgeries to those in need during its 33-year history.

Dr. Quigley’s inspiration to provide free cataract surgeries was his sister Kathy, who lost her vision to a rare eye disease called uveitus, an autoimmune disease that attacks the tissues of the eye. The disease progressed to the point that one eye had to be removed. Kathy eventually lost all sight.

“When your sister is legally blind, you realize how precious your vision is. She inspired me to do what I do today. Becoming an ophthalmologist is the best decision I ever made,”

– Dr. Thomas Quigley

Individuals who would like to be considered for the free cataract surgery may contact The Fort Myers Lions Club at 239-205-2166 or send an email to chuck517@comcast.net. The deadline to be considered is June 30.

To be considered for the free surgery, individuals must be residents of South Florida and pre-approved for in-need assistance by The Fort Myers Lions Club.

With more than 100 medical professionals, Quigley Eye Specialists is one of the nation’s leading multispecialty ophthalmology practices specializing in cataracts, laser cataract surgery, glaucoma, LASIK, dry eye, eyelid surgery, retinal issues, corneal conditions and routine eye care. The practice also has added a cosmetic surgery division led by facial plastic surgeon Dr. Stephen Prendiville.
