Improve Your Vision

with Eyelid Surgery.

Every year, one hundred thousand men and women choose eyelid surgery, also called blepharoplasty, to either improve their vision or to improve the way they look, or both. Droopy eyelids can impair your vision and can also make you look older, tired and less alert. Blepharoplasty can correct these problems.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes the excess fat, muscle, and skin from the upper lids and perhaps the lower lids as well. The primary goal of the procedure is to restore your full field of vision – to “raise the curtain” that has been progressively drooping down over the years and gradually blocking more and more of your vision. A secondary goal is to improve your appearance so you don’t look tired, worn-out or sleepy.
What is Bladeless Blepharoplasty?
Quigley Eye Specialists are proud to offer “Bladeless Blepharoplasty” performed by our experienced eye surgeon, Dr. Michael Lewis. This technique allows surgery to be completed without a scalpel, resulting in less bruising and a speedier recovery.
What is the eyelid surgery procedure like?
Whether you have upper or lower eyelid surgery, tiny incisions are made along existing lines and creases of your lids to keep the incisions as inconspicuous as possible after they heal. Tiny sutures are used to seal the incisions to further decrease the chances of any scarring.
What should I expect after surgery?
Once completed, small sterile bandaging may be applied by your eye surgeon. While it is not necessary for the eyes to be covered in every case, an ointment will be used to prevent any dryness of the eye area from occurring after surgery.

To promote recovery and healing, cold compresses are recommended, as well as keeping your head elevated when you are laying down. Some pain medication can be prescribed depending on the level of your discomfort.

You can expect some swelling and slight bruising after surgery. However, these things will subside as the surgical area heals. For the first week and a half after your surgery, you will want to gently clean the eye area. Eyedrops can also be prescribed in some cases. Your doctor will tell you which activities and places you should be avoiding during the healing process. In 3 to 5 days, permanent stitches will be removed. If self-absorbing stitches were used, no removal will be required.

At Quigley Eye Specialists, your doctor will check in and schedule follow-up appointment to ensure recovery is going smoothly, leaving you with fully restored vision and a more alert, youthful appearance!
